White Rock Mountain Recreation Area offers a blend of history, stunning natural beauty, and outdoor adventure. Nestled in the heart of the Ozark National Forest, this historic site features unique and rustic stone cabins and a large lodge built by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930s. After years of weathering the elements, the structures were lovingly restored in 1991 by the dedicated Friends of White Rock.
Historic Charm and Modern Comfort
The recreation area includes:
- Three Stone Cabins and One Lodge: Each building features a stone fireplace, handcrafted wood furniture from the CCC era, and modern amenities. Enjoy comfortable lodgings with kitchens, private patios, charcoal grills, and fire pits. While there is no air conditioning, the stone structures remain cool in the summer and cozy with wood stoves in the winter. Remember to bring your own linens, towels, and bedding.
- Nine Primitive Family Campsites: These shaded sites come equipped with tent pads, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills. Though there are no electric or water hookups, nearby amenities include drinking water and vault toilets. Firewood can be purchased on-site.
